The curse of a Virgo & the beauty of a Blog

April 29th, 2009

virgogoddessjournalI’m a Virgo. If you haven’t heard, Virgo’s can exhibit certain characteristics — like being a perfectionist. I admit, I’m not a perfectionist in most areas, but when it comes to books I am. Crack the spine of a book — WHY? Why would someone want to deliberately create a crack in a perfectly bound book? I can read it just fine without making that ugly crease on the binding. Or what about folding pages? What’s wrong with putting a place holder on that page? I’ve recently come into a few hundred business cards that I’m not using, and they make PERFECT place holders.

So, I’m a bit particular when it comes to books, which is why I never kept a journal. What would I write? What if I decided to change my mind or made a mistake? Do I cross it out? But then it wouldn’t be perfect! And let’s not even consider ripping a page out of a journal an option… eek! What if my writing wasn’t pretty enough? I mean when we consider old journals, the writing is always so perfect. The letters all slant a certain way. The “S”s all look like they were traced from a wax seal, the “y”s dip under the line in such a way that it doesn’t occupy the personal space of the word below it. And what color ink do I use? I know, crazy right!

Suffice it to say, this is why I’m not a writer. Too many mistakes, too many ugly crossed out words, letters slant in opposite directions, words colliding in a verbose traffic jam in the middle of a once beautifully clean page. AND let’s not even discuss the possibility of another person finding and reading it! OMG!

Now blogging is a whole other beast, and I like it!  I have control of the delete button, of the fonts, of the spacing :) .  I’m not a writer — FAR from it.  I just like the fact that once I click publish, everything is perfect.  And, if it’s not, I can go back later and edit it!  Yeah for the power of editing!  I don’t even have to hide it, like one would a journal.  I want you to read what I write.  I want to share it with you, otherwise I wouldn’t have written it! Journaling = stressful, Blogging = not so much!

I’m not a blogger – I wouldn’t want to offend the real bloggers out there.  I write what I want to write, when I want to write it.  I’m not looking to make money or to gain noteriety.  But hopefully someone will stumble accross my words and it will strike a positive cord within them.  That’s the reason we write, right? And if they don’t, that’s ok too.  Because, I love coming back to my blog and I love to see that the letters that are perfectly formed, with no crossed out words, no unnecessary scribbles, and no crease in the binding :) .
